What is Worship?
Music is just music, just as this song is. But if we take time to sit down and listen through all the beats and melodies of the instruments, we can hear the Holy Spirit speaking to us through these artists.
So let these lyrics pierce your heart as it did mine. As God washed away my blindness and broke through my deafness, He called to me time and time again hoping to catch me once more. Father, you've shattered my darkness.
The word "Again" in the chorus implies that there was more than one instance that we were alive. Being sinners, we have nowhere and no one to turn to except our Savior. By doing so we are saved and the gap is bridged from us to God. But because Satan is always trying to lure us back into Hell with him, we trip and we stumble.
Matt Maher's "Alive Again" helps portray the mercy that is of God. Whether we walk or fall, God is always trying to win us back. We die again and again, but because of God, we are Alive Again.
Amen!

I like this entry because it's something I struggle with. Music is one area I really struggle with because I cannot distinguish between reality and emotion. The first time I joined an "English" church (I've grown up in a Korean church) I was really put-off with the way praise was done. I really didn't see the point of some songs and was even against some because I felt some churches played with emotions too much.
What is your take on this? When is it too much emotion? Is it just a lack of faith if you're not "into" the music? How should worship be done? Is there a right or wrong?
Note: Music is an important part of worship. So I'm not saying music shouldn't be a part of worship.
Reminds me of J-Gen, when all those kids are jumping up and crying for God.. Makes me wonder if it is really for God or everyone is just sucked into the hype of the moment and the loud music. Music is important.. It's a gift that God has given to us to express ourselves and our love to Him, but at the same time it's so easy to be carried away by just the music itself. That's why I love "Heart of Worship".. because it makes you go back and think why you are singing songs.. is it for God or is it just because we like to sing? Hm. c:
Yea, I actually did my quiet time on this topic today, which I found to be very helpful. It was on Mary's song after she heard the news about how she was to give birth to Jesus. I really think that's the way music should be done. What do you guys think? Mary's song, or the Magnificat as people call it, is Luke 1:46-55
I don't know about you guys, but if I love someone, I would want all the emotions that entail that relationship.
James 3:9-10
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
Worship is consider a physical expression of love. But as RDK said, too much emotion can cause us to forget why we are singing in the first place.
The tongue speaks the heart, but it can also speak evils, or in this case, false pretenses towards worship.
If we love God, then our tongues will naturally express it. It is merely a matter of controlling your heart. Those kids need to look at their hearts and from that release the emotion that encompasses the love for God through worship! If they hate singing, worship through praying, dancing, fellowship. etc.
There is no right or wrong. There is only a "glorifying to God" or "not glorifying to God".
